Distributed systems must integrate the greatest number of services unless this increase its complexity and decrease performance, so they must be flexible and efficient.

Logo GREV The group of Networks and Virtual Environments (in Spanish ‘Grupo de Redes y Entornos Virtuales’ or GREV) focuses its research on interconnection networks of distributed applications, distributed virtual environments and the development of scalable multiagent systems. Last years the GREV group has initiated interdisciplinary collaborations with other research groups in Bioinformatics and Archaeology fields. The main researcher is Doctor Juan Manuel Orduña Huertas.
Logo GREV GREV conducts its investigation integrate and ongoing cooperation with the ACCA team, composed of four research groups from Spanish universities.

Research Lines:

- Linux Operating System for the remote memory management: Development of new services to use and manage remote memory.

- Computational genomic: Optimization of existing software and development of new ones to make the most of all the existing resources in the computers that exist nowadays (multicore processors, graphic processors, etc.) that allow a substantial improvement in the genomic knowledge.

- Collaborative augmented reality (CAR): To improve the benefits of the CAR systems, as a high level distributed application.

- Population dynamic simulation: Integration of existing numeric models, complex models and social networks in scalable multiagent systems applied to the Neolithic agriculture expansion.

- Multiscale systems based on social simulation techniques: Development of multiagent simulation systems that simulate human behavior in mobility politics, and also the effect of this behavior in urban areas.

Application fields:

- TIC sector: teleservice, e-learning.

- Genomic: Optimization of the algorithms for the DNA sequenciation.

- Public sector: Metropolitan transport planning. Evacuation and security systems. Cultural services and diffusion of assets.

Other interesting information:

The GREV takes part in the CONSOLIDER 2006 project Arquitecturas fiables y de altas prestaciones para centros de proceso de datos y servidores de internet, which has as objective to develop several techniques to improve the good work and reliability of actual server architectures for data centesr and the internet servers, with a limited cost and energy consumption. In the project sixty researchers from four Spanish universities participate.

GREB collaborates with other foreign prestigious groups of researchers, such as Lousiana Immersive Technologies enterprise (LITE) from EEUU, Adaptative Computing and Networking Laboratory from the National Central University of Taiwan, or Simula Research Laboratory, from Norway.

Also, several members of the GREV belong to the European Excellence Network:

European Network of Excellence on High Performance and Embedded Architecture and Compilation (HiPEAC), that aims to become a global reference point in the field of embebed systems architecture.

INTUITION Network of Excellence, whose purposes are the identification of user needs and the new fields of virtual reality technology application.
